Pundits predict further Leeds United stagnation as Mark Lawrenson backs 'deserved' Whites win

Leeds United will be looking to extend the gap between them and the bottom three this weekend as they travel down to the south coast to face fellow relegation rivals Bournemouth.

The Whites have faced a tough run-in against several of the teams around them in the table but have failed to take their chances of climbing above them at any point.

That means they remain 16th but a win against the Cherries would see them jump at most four points away from the relegation zone, with the gap currently at just a single point.

Pundits from across the media have been giving their predictions ahead of the weekend's action and LeedsLive has rounded them up for you.

Chris Sutton

Sutton wrote in his weekly predictions for BBC Sport : "I was at St Mary's Stadium on Thursday and Bournemouth really impressed me with their performance against Southampton.

"As I've mentioned before, I haven't backed them often this season but they are a really well-balanced side and they should have won by a bigger margin than 2-1.

"Leeds, meanwhile, are in desperate need a win after taking only one point from their past four games. Where will it come from though?

"Javi Gracia's team are such a patchy side and it's hard to make a case for them playing well for long enough to win, but they might come up with enough to grab a draw if the Cherries take their foot off the gas.

"Chris Sutton's prediction: 1-1."

Paul Merson

Merson wrote for SportsKeeda : "Bournemouth are safe now. This is a big game for Leeds United who are currently 16th in the table. Bournemouth beat Southampton in midweek. It was a good result for them. Leeds United play one way. They play frantic football.

"Even though they've changed managers, they continue to play the same. No one has been able to come and change it.

"But they've got to have a go at Bournemouth this weekend. They've got to win this game. They play Man City away, Newcastle at home, West Ham United away and Tottenham at home after this.

"They need to get something positive out of this game against the Cherries. Leeds play such gung-ho football and it might help them in getting something out of this matchup.

"Prediction: Bournemouth 2-2 Leeds United."

Mark Lawrenson

Lawrenson wrote for PaddyPower : "I watched Leeds in midweek and they’re still completely scatty. I’ll go for Leeds to win this. They should have won the other night, Patrick Bamford should have scored and it would have been deserved.

"Bournemouth 1-2 Leeds."
