Pundits disagree on Tottenham vs Newcastle prediction as Antonio Conte point made

Tottenham Hotspur will be looking to return to winning ways on Sunday afternoon with three points over Newcastle United. Antonio Conte's side suffered their first defeat in four games on Wednesday night as Manchester United ran out 2-0 winners.

The defeat squandered a chance for Spurs to leapfrog Manchester City into second place and cut the gap to Arsenal at the top of the Premier League table. With United's three points and Chelsea's point gained at Brentford, they remain in the top four with a four-point gap.

Sunday provides a tough test against one of the league's most in-forms sides, with Eddie Howe's men sat in sixth after winning three of their previous four games. Wednesday's 1-0 home win over Everton means the Magpies visit North London full of confidence.

Ahead of Sunday's contest, pundits have been deliberating who they believe will come out on top at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Former Premier League stars Chris Sutton and Mark Lawrenson have made opposite predictions.

Speaking to Paddy Power, former Liverpool man Lawrenson has predicted a 2-0 victory for Conte's men, dismissing any possible hangover from the display at Old Trafford.

"Newcastle are on a good run and they’re not conceding many goals which is good but Spurs are Spurs. They didn’t really turn up at Old Trafford but I think they’ll win here and that inconsistency will drive Antonio Conte absolutely mad."

Lawrenson's prediction: 2-0

However, Sutton has disagreed with Lawrenson and has backed the Magpies to cause a shock in North London on Sunday.

"I really like what Eddie Howe is doing at Newcastle. They are defensively sound, but they always create chances too and they are a team full of confidence," he told BBC Sport.

"Tottenham have been getting some good results without playing particularly well, or at least they were until they went to Old Trafford on Wednesday.

"That defeat would have been worse if not for some good saves by Spurs keeper Hugo Lloris, and they might need him to keep them in this game too."

Sutton's prediction: 1-2
