Pundits almost unanimous as they deliver predictions before Super League Grand Final

Matthew Shaw - Rugby League Live editor

I'm really reluctant to write off the Rhinos because I've done it twice already during the play-offs and they've proven me wrong twice. I thought their race was run when they headed to Perpignan and I thought the semi-final would be a game too far. Both times I was, clearly, emphatically wrong.

But how do you tip against a side that has won three straight Grand Finals? This version of the champions isn't quite as sublime as the three previous, largely down to key injuries they haven't faced in previous years. That has damaged their excellence in parts this year and yet, they still finished top.

I think this is the final they're most likely to lose, and yet I still don't see it happening. Leeds have something about them at the minute, a kind of spirit that just sees them find a way. But Saints were as good as I've seen them for a while in the first 30 minutes of the semi-final win over Salford and I think that's a sign of what is to come on Saturday. Leeds have managed to hang in games and give themselves an opportunity, but they're up against a different beast

Winner: St Helens

Storylines and sub-plots drip from this year’s title decider, with Saints bidding to achieve Super League immortality by winning an unprecedented four in a row. Against a club who have beaten them in every one of their previous four Grand Final meetings.

Leeds have been some story since Rohan Smith arrived – from no-hopers to Old Trafford within the space of five months. The Rhinos may have Ash Handley back after injury and his carries out of yardage, not to mention his finishing ability, would give them a major boost.

Victory over the defending champions – to deny them a ‘four-peat’ – would be the fairytale finish to their rollercoaster campaign. It is difficult, though, to bet against this St Helens side who are a hard-nosed outfit under Kristian Woolf and know how to get the job done on the biggest stage. Boosted by the availability of Jack Welsby and Morgan Knowles, Saints will take some stopping tomorrow evening.

It shouldn't be this difficult to predict. First versus fifth, a side who've been champions for over 1,000 days against a team that were second-bottom in April. But given what's happened in the last three weeks, you just cannot rule this Leeds Rhinos side out of anything.

After all, they weren't even making the play-offs with eight minutes left of the regular season. Now they're in the Grand Final. Can they complete the job and cap the most remarkable journey to the Super League title? Yes. Will they? I have to lean towards no.

There is something about this St Helens side I cannot ignore in a game like this. When the chips are down, they find a way. They did last week, and I think they'll do it again. It'll be tight, it'll be tense. But I think the quality of the reigning champions will shine through come the final hooter.

Winner: St Helens

If Leeds can pull off another win, it will be the greatest Super League title victory yet. Considering where they have come from, wallowing near the foot of the table like they were a bunch of strangers in April, it is a remarkable turnaround underpinned by the brave but ultimately correct call to appoint Rohan Smith as coach.

The mild-mannered Aussie, who rarely seems to be ruffled by anything, has managed to bring the best out of a squad who looked utterly broken. But finishing the job could be a game too far and the cruel loss of scrum-half Aidan Sezer to concussion is a hammer blow.

St Helens, of course, are out to make their own history as the first team to win four successive Grand Finals. They have their own misses. But Jonny Lomax, James Roby, Jack Welsby and - dare I write it - Morgan Knowles are all there. I expect them to edge it. Just.

Winner: St Helens

It's easy to say why St Helens are favourites and how they can complete a historic four-peat at the weekend, but for me, all eyes are on the Rhinos. I don't think Rohan Smith has changed a lot on the field since taking over, but what he has done is put the spirit and belief back into this Leeds outfit. With what's happened during the week with Morgan Knowles and most people writing them off, I'm tipping the underdogs.

With long-serving players leaving after Saturday and the fact they will be wearing the Rob Burrow kit, they have all the inspiration they need to lift the coveted trophy for the ninth time. I also think Zak Hardaker will have a big say in the proceedings and is one to keep an eye on in the Blue and Yellow corner.

Winner: Leeds Rhinos

Dan Tomlinson - Hull Daily Mail

To win four titles in a row would be nothing short of incredible. That’s the reward for St Helens should they win another Grand Final on Saturday night. Leeds stand in their way, and what a turnaround they’ve had. I was at Headingley in March when Hull FC tore them apart. I was also in Perpignan for that comeback in July. That was nothing short of astonishing, but it summed the Rhinos up under Rohan Smith. Never say die. They played some slick stuff too that night, and they’ll give everything at Old Trafford. Will it be enough? That’s the question. St Helens are outstanding. I’m backing them. Just. And you can guarantee Morgan Knowles, just like Lee Smith did in 2008, will play a huge part.

Winner: St Helens
