Pundit proved wrong about Nottingham Forest after shock Chelsea announcement

Thomas Tuchel has been sacked as Chelsea head coach, leaving at least one pundit with egg on his face.

Tuchel paid the price following the Blues' tame 1-0 defeat to Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League on Tuesday evening.

Two defeats in his opening six Premier League games had already cranked up the pressure on the German, with the London club’s new owners saying they “believe it is the right time to make this transition”.

It gave Tuchel the dubious honour of being the first Premier League manager to lose their job this campaign, an unwanted accolade TalkSPORT pundit Tony Cascarino was convinced was destined for Nottingham Forest boss Steve Cooper.

Speaking in August ahead of Forest’s home defeat to Tottenham, the former Millwall, Gillingham and Chelsea striker felt Cooper would fall victim to Evangelos Marinakis ’ itchy trigger finger.

“If they get in any danger at all, he’ll be gone,” said Cascarino on talkSPORT. “As well as he’s done, he’ll be gone from that football club.

“Just look at the owner’s history with managers. It tells you that he will make a real quick change if he feels it’s necessary.

“And if they have a difficult September and they find themselves in the bottom three, it wouldn’t surprise me if Steve Cooper was the first manager sacked, it really wouldn’t.”
