Pundit predicts shock Nottingham Forest reverse for Blackpool clash

Former Premier League striker Chris Sutton has predicted that Nottingham Forest will be on the end of an FA Cup upset this weekend as the Reds take a break from Premier League action.

Steve Cooper ’s side travel to the coast to take on Championship side Blackpool at Bloomfield Road in the third round of the competition on Saturday. The Forest boss could make changes to his starting lineup for the game with one eye on next weekend’s league clash against Leicester City.

Blackpool currently sit in 22nd place in the Championship and are winless in their last nine games. The Tangerines have though picked up four draws in their last five games, including a 1-1 draw against Sunderland in their last outing.

Forest had a memorable run in the competition last season, themselves causing upsets against Leicester and Arsenal. The Reds lost to eventual winners Liverpool in the quarter-final of the competition.

But, making his prediction for BBC Sport , Sutton now believes that roles will be reversed, and it will be Forest on the end of a cup upset.

“Nottingham Forest had a great run in the FA Cup last season - beating the 2020 and 2021 winners, Arsenal and Leicester, and running the future winners, Liverpool, close - while they charged up the Championship on their way to promotion,” he said.

“This time, they are the Premier League team trying to avoid defeat against a Championship side. Blackpool have not won for a while, home or away, but this tie might just kick-start their season.”
