Pundit highlights two major reasons behind the 'incredible job' of Jesse Marsch at Leeds United

Former Crystal Palace and Brighton striker Glenn Murray believes Jesse Marsch has done an ‘incredible job’ since his appointment at Leeds United. Marsch picked up his third victory in six matches as Leeds boss on Saturday as they defeated Watford 3-0 at Vicarage Road.

The Whites have now picked up 10 points from their last four matches – a run of form that is particularly impressive given that Marsch had lost his first two games in charge. Leeds have opened up a strong advantage between themselves and the bottom three, though safety is not yet secured given the games in hand Burnley and Everton have.

Speaking on BBC’s Football Daily Podcast, Murray admitted that Marsch has proven he and many others wrong during the early weeks of his spell at Leeds, pointing towards a more solid backline and the regalvanised form of Jack Harrison and Rodrigo Moreno as they key behind his success.

He said: “I must admit that when Jesse Marsch was appointed, I was like the rest of the country and said: ‘who?’ But what an incredible job he’s done. I did worry for them under Bielsa, then bringing Jesse Marsch in and him losing his first two games of his tenure.

I thought this isn’t going well but the character and what they’ve shown under him, and obviously the work he’s put in on the training ground with the boys to get three wins and a draw in the last four games. It’s a fantastic turn around but I think you always felt as though it was there with Leeds, it was just getting the players in the right places and that’s without their two best players in Bamford and Phillips.

“If you add those two into it, it’s a huge plus for them. But I think we’ve got to shout out Llorente and Cooper who’ve formed a centre back partnership in the last two games that gives them more of a foundation to go forward from. Rodrigo and Jack Harrison have been resurrected under Marsch - Rodrigo has scored three all season, he’s now got three in six games.

“Harrison had scored four, three in one game, and now he’s got three under Marsch as well so you can see that they’re more confident in going forward and a lot more stringent at the back.”
