Pundit claims Leeds United man 'good enough to nail down' first team spot at Liverpool

Glen Johnson believes that Leeds United winger Raphinha would be good enough to secure a regular role in Liverpool’s starting XI if he made the move to Anfield. Liverpool are one of several top sides reportedly keen on a summer transfer for the Brazilian after two good seasons at Elland Road.

The Reds are in the market for a Sadio Mane replacement, who wants to leave the club this summer, though it appears their first choice target is Benfica striker Darwin Nunez. Nonetheless, Raphinha has already proven himself in the Premier League by netting 17 goals and providing 12 assists in 67 matches for Leeds.

He is now also a regular in Tite’s first choice Brazil XI, starting both of their international friendlies against South Korea and Japan earlier this month. Speaking to bettingodds.com, Johnson claimed that while he does think Raphinha is good enough to start consistently for Liverpool, he must be prepared to fight for his place if he made the switch to a top club.

He said: “I think he’s good enough to nail down a place in the starting 11. I think if you sign for a bigger club, then you’ve got to expect to fight for your place. I think he is good enough to bang the door down and I do believe he will get enough game time at Liverpool.

"Bear in mind that if he does go to Liverpool then they’re going to play twice as many games as Leeds do. However, I do believe he will get his game time and I think he’s good enough to nail down a place in the starting 11."
