North Lanarkshire councillors are set to further discuss plans to build a second McDonald's drive thru in Cumbernauld.
Last year, planning permission in principle was granted for the new outlet just off Craiglinn Park Road, near the Broadwood Farm pub and carvery, with 66 parking spaces .
Now, applicants have submitted a full planning application that will include the erection of a restaurant (Class 3) including drive-thru lane, a 52 space car park, play frame, seating, landscaping, and associated works at the same site.
And the council is asking the public for their opinions on the plans, after four objections were received back in June of last year.
The concerns raised included the number of existing fast food premises in the town, particularly as this site is near St Maurice's High School, road safety especially for pupils going to the restaurant, a general increase in traffic and congestion, and claims Craiglinn roundabout would need to be redesigned.
Council officers responded by saying the number of outlets or impact on healthy eating were not valid planning considerations and that any road safety issues were not sufficiently impactful to warrant refusal.
Support or opposition to the development can be submitted to the local authority at https://eplanning.northlanarkshire.gov.uk/.../application...
