Public meeting planned to help improve resilience measures for victims of major flooding in Perth

It is hoped a Perth community repeatedly affected by flooding can come together to share ideas on how to improve resilience.

Perth Community Flood Aid is holding a meeting on Saturday, January 28 at 12.30pm at Glenearn Community Campus.

The group is calling for those in the Cherrybank and Craigie area of Perth affected by flooding to share their experiences and devise new ideas as to how best to take action.

Perth Community Flood Aid is a newly formed community run mutual aid network.

Hundreds of homes in the Craigie Burn area have been leafleted with questionnaires asking about their experience of flooding. The area was significantly affected by flooding in August 2020 and in September 2022 with several properties affected on other occasions recently too.

The questionnaire asks if and how residents have been affected by flooding, what measures they have taken and what they think is the cause of flooding in the Craigie Burn catchment area.

Residents are asked to bring along a copy of their questionnaire to the meeting or email their response to floodingperth@outlook.com

Croft Park resident and flood victim Janice Haig told the Perthshire Advertiser: "We want the meeting to be a group discussion and a chance to consider what the community wants Perth Community Flood Aid to do going forward. It is not a 'we talk and you listen' meeting.

"The meeting is to discuss helping each other at community level - not local or national government responsibilities or actions. All levels of flood prevention, protection and resilience must be dealt with. We are focussed on the individual and their ability to help themselves, neighbours and the community supported by Perth Community Flood Aid. This help could be information and advice (with help from Scottish Flood Forum), help to prepare for flooding, providing flood protection products to those who cannot afford to buy it themselves and early warning of possible flood events."

Any updates will be added to Perth Community Flood Aid's Facebook page.
