Organisations representing various consumer sections and power sector bodies attended a public hearing on electricity tariff revision proposals organised by the Kerala State Electricity Regulatory Commission (KSERC) here on Wednesday.
This was the second of the four public hearings planned by the KSERC before finalising a decision on the tariff proposals submitted by the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB). The first hearing was held in Ernakulam on April 1. The third and the fourth will be held in Kozhikode (April 11) and Palakkad (April 13).
Organisations representing domestic consumers, industries and commercial establishments, in addition to the KSEB and power-sector organisations attended the hearing.
KSERC chairman Preman Dinaraj and member K.J. Wilson conducted the hearing at the Jimmy George Indoor Stadium, Vellayambalam.
Validity extended
The KSERC has extended the validity of the prevailing tariffs for three more months or until the new tariffs are notified, whichever is earlier. The term of the existing tariffs had ended on March 31, requiring an extension as the revision process is still on.
As required by the KSERC (Terms and Conditions for Determination of Tariff) Regulations, 2021, the KSEB had filed the tariff proposals and ARR&ERC petitions for the 2022-23 to 2026-27 period on February 10. For the domestic category, the KSEB has recommended a slab-wise hike in the range of 35 paise to 70 paise for the 2022-23 fiscal from the existing tariffs.
