A Dublin pub has revealed some of its very peculiar history on social media which left many locals fascinated.
The Old Royal Oak Pub is located in Kilmainham and its cellar was once the home of a secret tenement flat with no toilet, gas lighting and an open fire.
The popular venue was first established in 1839, and has been run by the Costello family for 50 years.

Taking to social media on Tuesday, The Old Royal Oak Pub's Twitter account shared a glimpse into the past by revealing that many years ago its cellar was a lived-in flat.
They wrote: "This cellar underneath our snug was until 50 years ago, a tenement flat where a man lived on his own.
"No toilet, gas lighting and an open fire. We will show you the fireplace once the kegs are removed," they revealed.
Immediately social media users were left shocked and intrigued by the cellar's former use as someone's living quarters, with many commenting that it would be an "ideal" home amid the cost-of-living crisis.
One person commented: "Is it available now ? I have references, REFERENCES I TELLS YA!"
Another person joked: "That’s worth about 2k a month at current market value, get her up on daft. Would be ideal."
A third person wrote: "Important local heritage site as well as an iconic pub."
