PSV given 2am wake-up as fireworks set off outside hotel before Rangers clash

PSV given 2am wake-up as fireworks set off outside hotel before Rangers clash

PSV EINDHOVEN players were given a 2am wake-up call with fireworks set off outside their Glasgow hotel in the early hours of this morning.

The Eredivisie side are in Glasgow ahead of tonight's Champions League play-off first-leg against Rangers at Ibrox.

And the PSV players may have had endured a broken sleep ahead of the match - which kicks-off at 8pm tonight - after fireworks were set off at just after 2am.

Video shared on social media shows boxes of fireworks being set off along the River Clyde near where the PSV squad are thought to be staying.

The incident comes after Monaco made an official complaint to UEFA after they were awoken by fireworks at 4am before a match against PSV.

It's thought Dutch fans had set off fireworks at the hotel where the French side were staying ahead of the previous Champions League qualifying round match.

Police Scotland confirmed a call was received in relation to a report of fireworks being set off near the Millenium Bridge in Glasgow at 2.15am.

Officers were called to the scene where a box of fireworks which hadn't been used were seized and the vicinity was made safe.

No one has been arrested in connection with the incident.

A Police Scotland spokesperson confirmed: "Officers were called to a report of fireworks being set off in the vicinity of the Millennium Bridge, Glasgow around 2.15am on Tuesday, 16 August, 2022.

“Officers attended and a box of fireworks that had not been set off were seized and the area made safe. Nobody has been arrested in connection with the incident."
