PSV boss confirms Noni Madueke to Chelsea transfer ahead of Liverpool

PSV boss Ruud van Nistelrooy appears to have accepted the departure of Noni Madueke to Chelsea with the winger set to complete a deal with the Blues. football.london understands that the deal is set to be worth £35million.

The 20-year-old former Tottenham academy product has made just nine appearances this season due to an ankle injury. However, Chelsea technical director Christopher Vivell has held an interest in the youngster since his time at RB Leipzig and Madueke now appears set to become Chelsea's sixth signing of the window following Myhkailo Mudryk, David Datro Fofana, Benoit Badiashile, Andrey Santos and Joao Felix

The Eredivisie side had been reluctant to part ways with the England under-21 international after already selling Cody Gakpo to Liverpool. However, van Nistelrooy accepted that the fee Chelsea proposed has been worthwhile.

He said of the move: "A mix of emotions. We are losing a good player because of his departure. There was no turning back and there was a solid financial compensation. I can empathize with the importance of the club."

The Blues opened talks for the signing of the 20-year-old last week an saw a breakthrough on Thursday afternoon that saw the winger head to London to undergo his medical. Should Madueke's deal be confirmed he will become the fourth player to be signed by Chelsea this month who is 21 or under.

Madueke will need to be registered by 12pm on Friday to be eligible to make the trip to Liverpool for Saturday afternoon's game. However, the PSV star is unlikely to feature given he is yet to train with the team, though Joao Felix quickly made his own debut a day after signing from Atletico Madrid. The trip to Anfield will see Mudryk available for the first time following his £62million move that could rise to £88million with add-ons.

It remains to be seen whether Madueke would make Chelsea's Champions League squad with only the new players allowed to be registered.
