Police are appealing for information after the theft of a car from outside a home in South Belfast on Friday evening.
The car, a blue Nissan Micra, was reported to have been stolen from the property on Ashley Avenue sometime between 5pm and 7.30pm last night.
It was then spotted by police travelling city-wards on the Upper Springfield Road shortly before 8pm, when officers successfully deployed a stinger device and pursued the car into the Turf Lodge area.
The vehicle struck two parked cars at Norglen Gardens and Norglen Parade before being abandoned at Norfolk Gardens.
Police say three males exited the vehicle and made off from the scene on foot.
SDLP representative for West Belfast, Paul Doherty, was on the scene on Friday evening.
He said: "There could have been someone seriously hurt, or worse, killed as a result of the actions of these thugs. Our thanks to police and youth workers for acting swiftly tonight."
A PSNI spokesperson added: "Enquiries are ongoing to identify the males involved and officers would ask anyone with any information about this incident or anyone with dash-cam footage which could assist with the investigation to call them at Lisburn Road station on the non-emergency number 101 quoting reference number 1665 25/02/22, or submit a report online using our non-emergency reporting form via http://www.psni.police.uk/makeareport/.
"You can also contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or online at http://crimestoppers-uk.org/."
