PSNI statement on North Coast arrests over Easter weekend

Five people were arrested on the North Coast over the Easter weekend festivities.

PSNI District Commander Superintendent Jeremy Lindsay said people were arrested for various offences ranging from disorderly behaviour to common assault and assault on police.

Over 20 vehicles were also immediately barred from road use while there were hundreds of speeding detections.

Fixed penalty notices were also issued to a number of people for disorderly behaviour.

Supt Lindsay described the figures around public order offences from Friday, April 15 to Monday, April 18 as "a good result".

He also laid out the extent of motoring offences which were detected by officers in the past week.

"To date, 34 vehicles were examined with 24 of these vehicles issued with an immediate prohibition," he said.

"This means that the vehicle was not roadworthy and not permitted to continue on the road.

"One vehicle that we stopped had 13 faults, each one which could have caused a serious road traffic collision."

“Additionally, there were 518 excess speed detections between Friday and Monday (15-18th April), thanks to the Northern Ireland Road Safety Partnership mobile camera vans.

"A number of drivers were also issued with fixed penalty notices for other motoring offences including mobile phone use and anti-social driving."
