PSI suspended

Eastern Range IGP K. Thiyagarajan has suspended Malur Police Sub-Inspector Jayappa Naik, who was facing allegations of taking bribe from those into sand transportation.

An audio clip of a purported telephonic conversation between the PSI and a truck owner, who has been into the sand transportation business, had gone viral recently. The conversation had exposed the police officer’s relationship with the sand transporters and the money he was allegedly collecting regularly from them.

Based on the allegations, the PSI was transferred to IGP Office in Davangere on Tuesday. Within a day, he had been suspended.

Shivamogga SP B.M.Laxmi Prasad said that the PSI had been suspended by the IGP considering the recent allegations. The department would take strict action against officials, who had been with people into illegal sand mining and transportation, he said.

Further, he said that the district administration would take measures to avoid illegal transportation of the sand as well.
