PSG wonderkid Xavi Simons ordered to "behave" after sparking melee

Paris Saint-Germain youngster

Xavi Simons

has been issued a stern warning from his manager after the teenager sparked an on-pitch brawl following his provocative goal celebration.

The Parisians academy side progressed to the quarter finals of the UEFA Youth Champions League after dumping out Spanish opponents Sevilla with a 2-0 victory, though the win was not without its controversial moments.

Both of the French side's goals came from the penalty spot, but Simons goal was followed by a deliberately antagonising celebration that saw him put his finger to his lips to 'shush' his Sevilla counterparts.

Manager Zoumana Camara was less than pleased with what he saw and used his post-match interview as a chance to remind Simons of his responsibilities while playing for the club at any level.

"They must be aware that they are at Paris Saint-Germain, of the shirt they wear and that they represent an important club," said Camara.

"It is an institution where you have to behave. This is not just about your talent on the pitch, you have to behave and not respond to provocations."

Simons is well versed with the kind of threat Spanish sides can pose given he spent he spent nine years in the famed La Masia youth set-up at Barcelona.

He was widely touted as one of the most talent youth players at the Camp Nou and sparked interest from the likes of Premier League titans Chelsea and Barcelona's fierce rivals Real Madrid.

However, he failed to agree a contract with the La Liga titans in 2019 and was swiftly snapped up by PSG on a three-year deal that is rumoured to see him pocket just over €1million a year.

Properly integrated into the first-team fold during last summer's pre-season efforts, Simons has made four appearances for the PSG senior side this term.

He suffered penalty heartache earlier this season when Simons missed the decisive spot-kick during the Coupe de France shootout defeat at home to OGC Nice in January.

In terms of goal contributions at the highest level, Simon has one assist to show for his efforts after he set-up Kylian Mbappe's goal during a 4-0 cup win over Vannes.

Recent reports linked the Dutchman with a return to Barcelona, but club icon Lionel Messi who now shares a dressing room with Simons is thought to have warned his old side to steer clear.

Messi is rumoured to have told current Barcelona boss Xavi Hernandez that Simons is not yet ready for first-team football.
