PSG take first N'Golo Kante transfer step amid continued Chelsea contract concerns

Paris Saint-Germain have made contact with the entourage of Chelsea star, N'Golo Kante, amid growing fear that he won't sign a new contract at Stamford Bridge.

In less than 12 months' time, the contracts of both Kante and Jorginho expire. Extensions are not close to being agreed upon with either player and the reality is that come the end of the current campaign, the two midfielders who started the 2021 Champions League final victory over Man City could depart on free transfers.

Reports have suggested that Chelsea's co-owner Todd Boehly is keen to keep Kante on the books, but the 31-year-old is holding out for a better offer than the two years that the West London club offered him.

With his departure clearly a possible outcome, football.london understands early discussions have already been held by the ownership group over potential midfield targets for next summer. There's an understanding amongst staff that a succession plan is required – no matter what happens next with Jorginho and Kante.

It would be ideal if they could keep Kante for a while longer though, and continue to bring in other talent around him. That may prove to be difficult, however, as according to 90Min, via sportsmole, PSG have touched base with Kante's representatives to sound out a possible move in 2023, with Christophe Galtier keen to bring him back to France.

It's certainly one to keep an eye on in the coming weeks and months. Kante's status in Chelsea's history is likely secure, whatever might happen, but fans will be hoping the adventure isn't quite finished.
