PSG make key transfer decision that could mean Chelsea miss out on Robert Lewandowski signing

Chelsea's search for a replacement striker following Romelu Lukaku's loan departure has taken another turn with Robert Lewandowski now seemingly attracting interest from France as well as Spain.

The Blues have looked into acquiring Lewandowski several times over the past few seasons, seeing him as an answer to the goal scoring problem they have. However, Todd Boehly will face competition from Barcelona and Paris St Germain for his signature.

The Poland international has just one year left on his contract in Germany, making a cut price deal possible this summer, plus he has been open to a move away from the club ever since winning the Champions League with them in 2020. Any small chance that Chelsea might have had to sign the player looks to be fading though, as extra suitors for the striker continue to emerge.

Barcelona have also enquired about the player but the Spanish club appear to have come second best as PSG have offered Lewandowski a third option, should Xavi's side not go through with the deal. To see Barca potentially fall short in a transfer might delight certain Chelsea fans that have had to watch the Catalan giants move to try and poach their own transfer targets several times this summer already.

French champions PSG are doing their bit by attempting to take advantage of Barcelona's financial position and with Todd Boehly's Chelsea efforts focused on bringing in a new centre-back this summer, that could see them ruled out of the race as well.

Having loaned Lukaku back to Inter Milan, Tuchel is now under pressure to secure a new source of goals for the upcoming season, despite the imminent arrival of Raheem Sterling and football.london has previously reported that Tuchel is a big fan of the striker and would like to bring him to the club.

Lewandowski has been arguably the best player in the world over the past two seasons, netting a staggering 76 goals in just 66 league games, breaking the Bundesliga record for goals in a single season along the way.

Given Chelsea's apparent desire to have a mobile striker, Lewandowski doesn't fit the bill, however, he would still be a statement signing for the new owners.
