PSG crowned Ligue 1 champions for the 13th time with six games to spare

With six games remaining, Paris Saint-Germain defeated Angers 1-0 on Saturday to win their 13th Ligue 1 title, setting a new record.

At an upbeat, sun-drenched Parc des Princes home ground, PSG needed only a draw to record their 23rd victory in 28 games, but striker Désiré Doué scored the lone goal.

The record-extending win is PSG’s 11th French championship since Qatari backers QSI took over the club in 2011, with the other two coming in 1986 and 1994.

Coach Luis Enrique was mobbed by his staff members at the final whistle and thrown in the air as the players danced together in the center circle. They thereafter performed a lap of honour.

If the French champions defeat Reims in the French Cup final on 24 May, they will earn a second consecutive domestic double under Spanish coach Luis Enrique.

Later on Saturday, second-placed Monaco visits Brest, and Lyon hosts Lille, with both sides involved in a tight race to qualify for next season’s Champions League.

PSG’s attack stutters, but good enough for win

Les Parisiens laboured against an Angers side battling relegation that has lost its last five games without scoring.

Yahia Fofana of Angers made a spectacular save from midfielder Vitinha's long-range attempt late in the first half.

However, it was not until the 55th minute, when Doué skillfully volleyed in Georgia winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia's precise cross to the back post, that PSG was unable to cause any problems for the visitors.

Ousmane Dembélé, the top scorer in Ligue 1, entered the game in the second half but was unable to add to his league-high 21 goals.
