PSG boss Enrique urges squad to continue quest for unbeaten season in Ligue 1

Four days after reaching the semi-finals of the Champions League to maintain their quest for a quadruple of trophies, goals from Désiré Doué and Gonçalo Ramos allowed Paris Saint-Germain to see off relegation-threatened Le Havre 2-1 at the Parc des Princes to continue their pursuit of an unprecedented exploit in French football history.

PSG are trying to complete an unbeaten season.

"It's a source of motivation," admitted PSG boss Luis Enrique. "We could have slipped up against Le Havre. They're at the foot of the table and we're already champions but I think the players' approach was superb. They showed the right mentality."

Enrique's charges have won 24 and drawn five of their 29 games this campaign amassing 77 out of a possible 87 points.

After Le Havre, PSG travel on 22 April to an equally endangered Nantes side.

Nice and Strasbourg, who are both chasing places in next season's European competitions, follow before PSG finish the Ligue 1 season on 17 May at home to Auxerre.

A week later, PSG play Reims in the final of the Coupe de France and, depending on what happens against Arsenal on 29 April and 7 May, there could be an appearance in the final of the Champions League on 31 May in Munich.

Pride

"We're Ligue 1 champions, that's a goal we've achieved but there's a record can be broken," said Enrique.

Following PSG's anointment as champions two weeks ago, the intrigue in Ligue 1 turns to which teams will join them in next season's Champions League.

On Saturday night, Monaco and Strasbourg played out a goalless draw at the Stade Louis II.

The result allowed Marseille to leapfrog Monaco and move into second on the back of their 5-1 annihilation of bottom-of-the-table Montpellier.

Strasbourg rose to fifth on 51 points but they could drop to seventh should Lille and Nice registers wins over Auxerre and Angers respectively on Sunday.

Hole

Enrique, who took over in July 2023, hailed his title-winning squad for their resilience after the loss of star striker Kylian Mbappé.

When the France skipper departed for Real Madrid, it left a 27-goal hole in the PSG attack and raised question marks over who would emulate the Frenchman's pyrotechnics and offered the prospect of a dogfight for the Ligue 1 crown.

PSG's players responded collectively to the first poser to render the second redundant. Eighteen different men have racked up the 82 goals in 29 games with France internationals Ousmane Dembélé and Bradley Barcola emerging as the most prolific. Dembélé has scored 21 and Barcola has notched up 13.

"I'm very lucky to have the profile of players with such intelligence and versatility that they are also able to attack and defend as one," Enrique said.

"When I see the team play as a collective in attack and defence, it means that when I asked for 11 players attacking and defending, it came true.

"However, we can't forget anything," the 54-year-old Spaniard added. "We're not unbeatable. We never have been. We have to work so we are ready to face any situation.

"But of course, it's easier to work on things that are working."
