It looks like Starfield Constellation Edition pre-orders from Walmart are getting canceled just over a month out from the space game’s launch. A few instances of cancellations started showing up on Twitter and Reddit, with more people gradually popping up in the comments to say the same thing (thanks, GamesRadar).
Retailers overestimating how many units of a limited-edition item they’ll receive and taking pre-orders for them anyway isn’t new, but Walmart’s reported handling of the situation is causing some extra confusion. A few customers said they received notices saying Walmart refunded their purchase and the order history showed the price set to $0. One also said the notice they received called it a price match reduction.
I’m more than a little concerned about the order update I just got.

However, in all these cases, it turned out Walmart just canceled the order. One Redditer even said the supervisor they spoke with blamed the representative for “accidentally canceling it,” though it was an intentional cancellation in the other instances.
The $300 Constellation Edition includes a Starfield watch and case, along with a steelbook and Constellation patch. Stock quickly vanished when orders opened after the Xbox Games Showcase, and the collector’s item is currently out of stock at all major retailers.
Walmart hasn’t issued a statement about pre-orders or a reason for these cancellations.
Starfield launches on Sep. 6, 2023, for Xbox Seriers X|S and PC.
