While players await their free PlayStation Plus compensation for the recent PlayStation Network outage, it appears that some PS4 and PS5 owners are getting an extra reimbursement on top.
Sony has started adding $10 (£7.90) in free store credit to the accounts of users who were affected by another recent glitch in the PlayStation Store. The issue, which occurred in late December, prevented players from redeeming PS Store vouchers or gift cards.
Sony is emailing users who were affected by the glitch to alert them that the free credit has now been added to their wallets.
“We are aware that on December 24, 2024, a systems error resulted in users being unable to redeem voucher codes on the PlayStation Store, and we have identified your account as one impacted by this error,” reads the email, which was originally spotted by PlayStation LifeStyle.
It’s unclear how many users were impacted by the issue, though there certainly doesn’t appear to be much chatter about it on social media.
However, there was a Reddit post shared around the time of the issue in which numerous users complained about not being able to redeem PS Store gift cards. According to one comment, the problem lasted for several weeks.

Needless to say, that would have been frustrating for players, many of whom likely received the vouchers as Christmas gifts and were probably eager to download a game to play over the holidays.
Sony has yet to explain the cause of the December issue, much like its silence on the extensive PSN outage.
How to check if you received free PS Store credit
Of course, if you received the compensation, you should see the funds in your PS Store wallet. The email, meanwhile, should have arrived in the account linked to your PlayStation ID.
However, if you are entitled to the credit but have yet to receive it, you can reach out to PlayStation customer support. Be warned, though, there’s no phone contact, so you’ll have to try your luck with the live chat option.
