Sony has officially confirmed the PS Plus Essential July 2023 free games lineup and it includes the original Alan Wake ahead of the highly anticipated sequel releasing in October.
Following leaks earlier today, Sony has officially confirmed the PS Plus Essential July 2023 free games, and unsurprisingly the leaks were spot on. Alan Wake Remastered – which we predicted to be a part of the lineup (not to brag or anything) – is the standout title this month. The game takes inspiration from the likes of Twin Peaks and the works of Stephen King to create an incredibly unique experience. We'd wholly recommend checking it out before Alan Wake 2 launches on October 17, 2023.
The game is one of the most interesting horror titles from the Xbox 360 library thanks to its fantastic story penned by Remedy Entertainment (best known for Max Payne and Control). Alan Wake Remastered faithfully brings the game over to the PS4 and PS5, complete with the absolutely incredible soundtrack featuring the likes of Nick Cave and David Bowie intact. Plus it'll be required reading for the sequel which is one of our most anticipated games of 2023.
Also confirmed in the post on the PlayStation Blog is Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, which was the first entry in the long-running series to hit current gen consoles. It's set between Call Of Duty: Black Ops and Black Ops 2 and features Russell Adler and Frank Woods on yet another mission. The game brings back the multiple endings and choices form Black Ops 2 and features a character creation system for the campaign.
PS Plus July 2023 free games
The full list of PS Plus Essential games for July 2023 released by Sony are as follows:
- Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War (PS4|PS5)
- Alan Wake Remastered (PS4|PS5)
- Endling: Extinction is Forever (PS4|PS5)
These three titles will be available to download on Tuesday, July 4 and will continue to be available until Tuesday, August 1 when the PS Plus Essential August 2023 games will become available.
If none of these strike your fancy, worry not, as one week after Essential releases (Wednesday, July 12) Sony will officially announce which games will be available on PS Plus Extra and Premium for July 2023 the following week.
