Providence guard Al Durham’s impossible reverse layup had Twitter in awe

Providence senior Al Durham couldn’t have been more ready for the Friars’ opening game of the NCAA Tournament.

He paced the team with nine points on a game-high 10 shot attempts in the first half of their Round of 64 game game against South Dakota State. He also chipped in a team-high five rebounds and three assists.

His scoring prowess isn’t new to anyone who’s watched Providence in its run to the No. 4 seed in the Midwest Region — his 13.4 scoring average is second only to Nate Watson’s 13.8. But one shot in particular from that first half was absolutely ridiculous and deserves a second look.

Driving across the lane from right to left, he threw up an impossible reverse layup with his right hand…while facing away from the basket. Conventional wisdom would say go up with the left, but apparently that would’ve been too predictable? Easy to defend?

Whatever the reason, you can’t argue with the results. Durham somehow found a way to get enough spin and height on the ball and people on Twitter were in awe.

Providence led South Dakota State 31-23 at the half.
