'Prove who is king' - Liverpool's Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane told AFCON final will settle key debate

Former Chelsea midfielder and Cameroon legend Geremi believes Sunday's Africa Cup of Nations final will settle a huge debate involving Liverpool's Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane.

The duo are two of Africa's most famous players and they go head-to-head in tomorrow's showpiece.

Senegal are looking to rectify the defeat to Algeria in the 2019 final and lift the title for the first time, while Egypt could win the competition for an eighth time.

Team-mates at Anfield, but rivals for their national teams, Geremi says whoever wins this weekend can be regarded as the best in Africa.

"It’s a game the supporters will love to see. This is the opportunity to prove who is the king," he told Genting Casino.

"When you look at the debate among African fans, some are for Mane and some are for Salah. People always remember this type of match, so it will be exciting to see.

"It will be decisive to show who is the best and who is the king of Africa. This trophy will count if they’re both in contention to win individual awards at the end of the year."

Senegal booked their spot in the final with a 3-1 win over Burkina Faso on Wednesday, Mane was on the scoresheet and provided the assist for their second of the night.

It was far less clear cut for Salah, though, as Egypt's semi-final against Cameroon remained goalless after 90 minutes and extra time.

As they edged through on penalties, Salah will need to have more of an impact if they're to beat Senegal on Sunday.

Mane currently betters his team-mate for both goals and assists so far this tournament as he's registered one more than Salah in both categories.
