Cristiano Ronaldo has thanked fans for voting him as Manchester United’s April player of the month.
The Portugal superstar received 74 per cent of the vote to be bestowed the accolade for the fourth time this season. He scored five goals in four outings last month, three of which came against Norwich.
He also joined Edinson Cavani, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Gonzalo Higuain in a small group of players who have netted 100 or more goals in two of Europe’s top five leagues. However, April will be remembered as a very sad month for Ronaldo.

He and partner Georgina Rodriguez announced the devastating passing of their newborn twin son amidst the safe arrival of their daughter. After compassionate leave, the 37-year-old returned to net against Arsenal during a run that has seen him score six goals in his last four outings.
On Friday night, Ronaldo sent a message to United fans on Instagram thanking them for their votes. He said: "Thanks to all the supporters who voted for me and to all my team-mates who helped me achieve this award once again.
"I’m always proud to represent this amazing club and it’s very gratifying to be acknowledged by the Man United community." Ronaldo previously won the award in September, October and March.
Ronaldo has now been named as a contender for the Premier League’s player of the month for April. Manchester City duo Kevin De Bruyne and Gabriel Jesus have also been nominated alongside Liverpool midfielder Thiago and Tottenham striker Hueng-min Son and others.
