Protestors block Dublin Airport roundabout causing major delays

Protestors blocked Dublin Airport earlier this afternoon causing significant delays.

Officials said traffic was heavy on nearby roads on Sunday afternoon, due to the protest close to the Airport Roundabout. Gardai responded to the disruption and some traffic diversions were in place.

In a statement posted to social media, Dublin Airport management said: "Due to a protest close to the Airport Roundabout, traffic exiting Dublin Airport is currently disrupted. Gardai are at the scene managing traffic assisted by Airport Police.

"Passengers travelling to and from the airport this afternoon should allow additional time if possible," they added.

At this afternoon's protest, participants carried banners and signs stating 'East Wall Says No' during the protest as cars queued up. It is understood that a small number of protestors were at the scene.

In an update, Dublin Airport management wrote on Twitter: "Protest continues with traffic congestion on T1 and T2 roads. Traffic is slowly exiting the airport campus slowly via Castlemoate Rd.

"@GardaTraffic managing traffic with the support of Airport Police. Please allow additional time for your journey if possible."

It comes as last week during a protest at the airport some passengers were forced to walk to the terminal after getting out of buses and taxis stuck in the traffic. Gardai attended the protest last week and put traffic diversions in place.

No arrests were made at last week's protest.

A garda spokesman told Dublin Live: "Gardaí attended the scene of a protest near Dublin Airport earlier today, Sunday, 2nd April 2023.

"The protestors have since left the scene."
