Prince William and President Biden jeered by hecklers at Boston Harbour meeting

Hecklers accused the Prince of Wales and President Biden of "exploiting workers" as the pair met in Boston yesterday (Friday, December 2). A small crowd of about 100 protesters gathered at the city's harbour where the two men greeted each other before having talks at the John F Kennedy Library.

They were greeted with shouts of “**** the Royal family” and “Joe Biden is a scab”, the Daily Express reported. The protesters, from unions and Left-wing groups, also shouted “Let’s Go Brandon!” - a slogan normally used by Donald Trump supporters to mock Mr Biden.

The group were waving placards about a Senate vote on Thursday that imposed a pay and conditions deal on railway workers that had previously been rejected by several of the unions representing them because it did not include paid sick leave. Mr Biden had called on Congress to take the action to avert a railway strike to "avoid an economic catastrophe" over the festive period.

An organiser from Railroad Workers United, Nick Wurst, told the Daily Mail: “In relation to the Royal Family the joke answer would be we kicked you guys out in 1776.

“I would say to Joe Biden and Prince William watch yourselves. Workers everywhere are getting the short stick and are looking to fight back in the US and the UK as well. The fight is not over.”

Another protester, Claire Bayler, from the Independent Socialist Group, said: “Our message to Joe Biden and Prince William would be workers will defend our rights that we’re not willing to back down in this fight against massive corporations”.

She added that the president and the monarchy are “complicit in the exploitation of workers in the UK and the US”.

The prince and the president went on to have discussions about climate change and mental health issues. The meeting was arranged at the last minute when their teams discovered both men were due to be in Boston at the same time.
