Protester dressed as Santa scales Trafalgar Square Christmas tree in dramatic Fathers4Justice stunt

A protester dressed as Santa Claus climbed onto the Trafalgar Square Christmas tree and staged a dramatic demonstration during a busy Sunday morning in central London.

The man scaled the towering Norwegian spruce while brandishing a newspaper featuring Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer's face.

Campaign group Fathers4Justice claimed responsibility for the incident on social media platform X, stating: "A Fathers4Justice supporter dressed as Father Christmas has scaled the famous Trafalgar Square Christmas Tree in London. Trafalgar Square Closed. Police on scene trying to talk him down."

The incident forced authorities to close off parts of the square, with police officers attempting to negotiate with the protester. The Christmas tree, an annual gift from Norway to Britain since 1947, stands as one of London's most recognisable festive landmarks.

The demonstration marks the latest in a series of high-profile stunts by Fathers4Justice, a group known for their attention-grabbing protests highlighting fathers' rights issues.

Police have not yet confirmed if any arrests were made in connection with the incident.
