Prosecutors have requested sentences ranging from four to 20 years for the 51 defendants involved in what many consider to be France’s worst sex crime in a generation.
Forty-nine men, including one who is currently on the run, have been charged with the aggravated rape of a woman. Another defendant has been charged with drugging his own wife and facilitating her rape by another individual.
The main accused, the former husband of the victim, is facing a maximum prison sentence of 20 years. The prosecution is seeking an 18-year sentence for a 63-year-old man who allegedly raped the victim multiple times.

Prosecutors have most frequently requested a 10-year sentence for the majority of the defendants, while the shortest sentence of four years has been requested for one individual charged with sexual assault.
This case has shocked the nation and raised important discussions about sexual violence and the need for justice for victims. The court will soon deliver its verdicts, determining the fate of the accused individuals involved in this heinous crime.
