Prosecutors Drop Charges Against Florida Woman Who Threatened Insurance Company Shortly After United Healthcare CEO Assassination

Prosecutors have dropped criminal charges against a Florida woman who used a phrase associated with the assassination of United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson in her own threat on a healthcare company.

According to court documents, the woman apologized to the company, and all parties agreed to put the matter behind them, The Ledger reported.

On Dec. 10, Briana Boston, 42, was talking to an insurance company representative when she allegedly said, "Delay, deny, depose. You people are next," the newspaper reported. The conversation took place just days after Luigi Mangione allegedly killed Thompson on a Manhattan sidewalk. In that case, the words "delay," "deny," "depose," were written on shell casings.

After the conversation, an FBI referral was made to the Lakeland Police Department who arrested and charged her with a second-degree felony. "I believe these statements were meant to threaten the insurance company by using the UnitedHealthcare CEO's homicide to her advantage," Lakeland Police Detective Stephen Bonczyk stated in documents, according to The Ledger.

However, Boston also told police that she did not intend to hurt anyone and didn't own any firearms.

Also, at a previous court hearing, her attorney, Jim Headley, pointed out that the 42-year-old mother of three had no previous criminal history, News Nation reported. At that hearing, the judge granted her pre-trial release on bond.

The charges were because Blue Cross Blue Shield requested it. Assistant State's Attorney Joseph McCarthy wrote in court documents that Boston had apologized to the company and its representative and that all parties were satisfied, according to The Ledger.

The case garnered national headlines at the time. Online supporters of Boston reportedly raised $60,000 for her defense.
