Proscenic T31 air fryer

The Proscenic T31 AirFryer Oven promises to transform your home cooking, offering up to 12 different cooking functions, including air frying, dehydrating, baking, toasting and grilling. Featuring LED controls, an in-oven light, and a variety of extra accessories, including a rotisserie fork, the Proscenic T31 promises to cook a family meal for up to 5 people. The connected app also allows you to control elements of your new air fryer from the comfort of your sofa, or even remotely.

I reviewed the Proscenic T31 AirFryer Oven over a couple of weeks at home, trying as many of the 12 cooking functions as possible, from kebabs to rotisserie chicken, baked potatoes to fries. From how easy it is to set up and start using straight away to how easy it is to clean, you can find out below whether it offers good value for your money.

This review also looks at what other customers make of their Proscenic T31 AirFryer Oven, and how it compares to similar appliances.

Proscenic T31 AirFryer Oven: Design

The Proscenic T31 AirFryer Oven resembles a small oven more than an air fryer. It’s pretty big, measuring 13.8 inches deep, 15.4 inches wide, and 16.5 inches in height. You'll need to ensure you have enough countertop space to fit this beast into your kitchen.

Like many air fryers, the Proscenic T31 is encased in gleaming black plastic. At the front of the air fryer is a glass paneled door which opens from the top down and features a brushed steel and black plastic handle. Above this is a simple rotating dial, which you use to adjust the temperature and time. This features a button in the center to switch between the two settings. At the back is another handle for moving the air fryer around should you need to.

Turning on the Proscenic T31 reveals the various controls, all picked out in lights along the front display, which looks pretty impressive. Here you’ll find the 12 preset cooking programs, the on/off switch, a play/pause button, a light switch, and other settings such as pre-heat, keep warm and rotate (for the rotisseries basket and fork).

The 2 perforated baking trays and drip tray with the T31 appear to be made of aluminum and are coated in non-stick Teflon. The rotisserie accessories are all metal.

Inside the oven, you’ll find three rack positions and a hole for inserting your rotisserie accessory on one side, with a small shelf to secure it on the other side.

Proscenic T31 AirFryer Oven: Features

The Proscenic T31 AirFryer Oven has 12 cooking settings, plus a keep warm and pre-heat setting. These include:

Airfry
Fries
Steak
Wings
Vegetable
Fish
Chicken (here you can choose to use the rotisserie setting too if you wish)
Pizza
Bacon
Cake
Toast
Dried fruits (effectively the dehydrating setting)

You can also choose not to use any of these settings and instead get the air fryer going with the time and temperature setting you want. You can set the temperature to Fahrenheit or Celsius as you wish.

You can pause air frying at any time by pressing the pause button to the right of the dial, and it will also pause if you open the door. In addition, the oven automatically switches itself off after 5 minutes if you don’t restart the cooking. It also has an overheating function where it shuts itself down if needed.

The app that comes with the Proscenic T31 AirFryer Oven features hundreds of recipes that you can access online, although these are also included as a booklet with the oven itself.  Unfortunately, despite an index of recipes at the front of the recipe booklet, none of the pages is numbered! So you will need to thumb through or mark these out yourself for future use.

Via the app, you can also control your air fryer, which is handy if you need to leave the house during cooking or if you can’t be bothered getting off the couch! You will need a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network to connect your air fryer to the app.

The rotisserie accessories are plentiful and include:

A fork for cooking large cuts of meat or chicken
Skewers for kebabs
A cage for cooking fries or wedges
Tongs for removing the cage, skewers or fork

Proscenic T31 AirFryer Oven: Setup and assembly

The Proscenic T31 AirFryer Oven comes well packaged in a cardboard box and polystyrene surround, with clear plastic bags protecting the oven and accessories. Not all of these packing materials will be recyclable, depending on where you live.

Before setting up, ensure you have enough space - the manual calls for a minimum of 4 inches of clearance away from walls and upper surfaces. The overall footprint of the Proscenic T31 AirFryer Oven is around 1.5 square feet or 1.7 cubic feet, but this doesn’t include any clearance.

Before using the oven for cooking, I had to turn it on, select the highest temperature setting and run it for 15 minutes. This avoided any nasty oily smells when I later used the air fryer properly.

Proscenic T31 AirFryer Oven: Performance

I was intrigued by the rotisserie tools available with the Proscenic T31 AirFryer Oven, so I tried to use them all in the first week of testing. First up was chicken kebabs.

The oven comes with 8 kebab skewers which you need to insert into two ‘wheels’ at either end. The central rotisserie stick then needs to be threaded through this so you can secure it into the oven itself, ready for rotating. This part is a bit tricky until you get the hang of it as there are no instructions on how to do this in the manual. I had to watch several YouTube videos to understand how they were attached.

Finding the hole for the rotisserie stick and inserting it correctly is also tricky, especially if the oven is hot. There’s only a small space in which to work, so oven gloves feel too bulky. Instead, I’d recommend finding a neat pair of heat-resistant gloves that give you the dexterity to maneuver the rotisserie accessories as you need to without burning your hands.

Having said all that, the chicken kebabs came out perfectly cooked, tender and juicy with a little charring at the sides, which was just what I wanted.

Next up, I cooked a whole chicken using the rotisserie fork. I opted for a small chicken given the size of the oven and ensured the legs were tied together, before inserting the fork through the chicken and attaching the prongs at either side. Again, the process of inserting the rotisserie fork into the oven securely was super-fiddly but the chicken was cooked in around 50 minutes - that’s at least 30 minutes faster than a regular oven. Everything was cooked well and the skin was crispy and golden.

Using the rotisserie basket seemed more straightforward - you simply load fries or wedges into the basket, secure the lid at one side and then insert the whole thing into the oven. However, the gentle rotation of the basket tended to loosen the lid and fries fell out of the basket and into the drip tray below. After several attempts to re-secure it, I gave up and cooked the fries for the rest of the time on one of the perforated baking trays. Despite this, they were crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside and evenly cooked.

Sticking to safer territory, I decided to cook up a batch of bacon - which was perfectly crispy in a fraction of the time it takes to oven cook. Roasted potatoes, carrots and parsnips were also a winner as a side with a Sunday roast.

Sadly, I found the cake-cooking function wasn’t up to scratch. Because the heating tube is at the top of the oven, I found the top of a victoria sponge browned far too quickly. And despite baking it for the same time as I would in a normal oven, the cake was still raw on the inside.

What I enjoyed about this oven was its ease of use. Whether you want wings, kebabs, fries, rotisserie chicken or bacon, you don’t need to think about your temperature setting or time - this air fryer does it all for you. It also cooks food incredibly well, especially fried or roasted food.

However, the unreliability and fiddliness of the rotisserie accessories put me off wanting to try further attempts on that front. And if it’s a mini oven for baking that you’re after, I’d give this air fryer oven a miss.

Proscenic T31 AirFryer Oven: Care and maintenance

The manual included with the Proscenic T31 AirFryer Oven offers advice on care and maintenance, but most of it is straightforward, common-sense advice. For example, not using corrosive cleaners or materials to clean the interior. In addition, the baking trays and rotisserie accessories can all go into the dishwasher, so there is no extra washing up.

The manual also advises that if you don’t use the air fryer for a long time, you should wipe a small amount of cooking oil on the surface of the heating tube. This is at the top of the oven interior.

The exterior can be cleaned with a quick wipe of a damp cloth and liquid soap if necessary.

The Proscenic T31 AirFryer Oven has a 1-year limited warranty, which isn’t as generous as some competitors. Unfortunately, at the time of writing, there were no accessories on sale at the Proscenic site for T31 accessories. However accessories for Proscenic’s earlier air fryers (T21 and T21) are available, so T31 add-ons and replacements may be forthcoming.

Proscenic T31 AirFryer Oven: Price and availability

$174.98 or £179.00

Proscenic’s latest air fryer is priced slightly higher than many of its competitor appliances from Tefal, Cosori and Tower.  However, not all air fryer ovens at this price offer rotisserie functions, a wide range of accessories or control via a remote app. So, on the whole, I would consider it to be good value for money.

The Proscenic T31 AirFryer Oven is available from Amazon.

Proscenic T31 AirFryer Oven: User reviews

Although it’s relatively new to the market, the Proscenic T31 AirFryer Oven already has an awe-inspiring 5 stars out of 5 on Amazon, with 88% of happy customers giving it the full 5 stars.

Users love how convenient and easy it is to use and that it’s big enough to feed a family. One new user says, “Fabulous bit of kit, still learning how to get best results, but even first attempts have been impressive.” Many reviewers appear to be upgrading their existing air fryers to this appliance, suggesting they want more versatility in their cooking functions.

It’s hard to find any critical reviews about this air fryer, but one user notes the top tray cooks quicker than the lower tray, while another simply thinks the product is overpriced.

Proscenic T31 AirFryer Oven: What the experts say

Cira Jones, Marketing Manager at Russell Hobbs, is a fan when it comes to air fryers because of their energy and time efficiency. “Air frying is a much more energy efficient way to cook versus an oven because you are heating up less space and the preheat time is much quicker, meaning you have the unit on for a shorter time than an oven too.”

However, she does warn that not cleaning your air fryer regularly can affect its performance. “Clean the baking trays after every use to prevent a build-up of crumbs. These can burn if they’re not cleaned properly.”

Should you buy the Proscenic T31 AirFryer Oven?

The fiddly rotisserie accessories may put some people off, but the Proscenic T31 AirFryer Oven is hard to beat for versatility and great cooking performance.

How does the Proscenic T31 AirFryer Oven compare to competitors?

If you want an air fryer that can double up as a great small convection oven, the Cuisinart Air Fryer Toaster Oven may be perfect for you. It bakes cakes to perfection and offers several other cooking functions and air frying. It’s expensive, but a 3-year warranty and great design may sway you in its favor.

Why not go even bigger and consider the full-size Frigidaire GCRE3060AF Electric Range Smart Oven. It’s a standard oven that offers air frying as an extra setting, freeing up your countertop for other appliances. With a 5.7 cubic feet capacity, three internal shelves and five cooking elements on the cooktop, you’ll get maximum use from this kitchen appliance.

If you like the versatility of the Proscenic T31 but don’t want an appliance that looks like a mini oven, the NuWave Brio 37001 6-Quart Air Fryer could be the right fit. It looks like a standard air fryer but offers grilling, air frying, baking, broiling, roasting, dehydrating, reheating, defrosting, and toasting.
