Over 300 authentic lots used in the production of the multi-million dollar Divergent movies are going up for auction for the first time.
The exclusive online sale is the latest from Prop Store, one of the world’s leading film and television memorabilia companies, in conjunction with Lionsgate.
Unadjusted for inflation, the three films in the Divergent Series grossed $765.4 million at the worldwide box office.
Among the items available are many original costumes worn by the protagonist, Tris Prior (played by Shailene Woodley), as well as the Fringe Mission Costume worn by Tobias “Four” Eaton (played by Theo James), and the Control Room Costume worn by Jeanine Matthews’ (played by Oscar-winner Kate Winslet) – they’re expected to sell for between $2,000 and $6,000.
The budget for the first Divergent movie, the simply titled Divergent, had its budget increased from $40 million to $80 million (and then increased again to $85 million) following the success of The Hunger Games. It ended up grossing $288.9 million worldwide, of which $150.95 million was from domestic box office. A fourth film in the Divergent franchise was planned, but it stalled due the third underperforming at the box office. Producers considered creating the fourth as a television film with a spin-off TV series to follow. That plan was scrapped in December 2018.
Also going up for auction are Bureau Wall Guard helmets and uniforms, Tris Prior’s Simulation Control pellet, Erudite Ceremonial Choosing Bowls, and Erudite mutiny rifles. This is the first time items from the movies have been made available at auction.
“What stands out about the Divergent Series auction is the custom-made nature of just about every lot on offer. Since the series takes place in a fictional world in the future, there are some fantastic wardrobe styles, and some of the coolest sci-fi weapon and mask designs we’ve encountered,” explained Prop Store COO, Brandon Alinger.
The auction will be held exclusively online with worldwide shipping available. It’s a no-reserve sale, which means all final bidding prices are determined solely by bidding activity. Bidding starts Monday, March 4, 2019, at 9:00 am PT and will remain open through Friday, March 15, 2019.
All items in the sale are originals used in connection with the production of the film and include a Prop Store Certificate of Authenticity.
