Plans for a windfarm development in Lockerbie were thrown out by Dumfries and Galloway Council.
EnergieKontor UK submitted proposals to erect nine turbines reaching a maximum height of 190m, along with access tracks, an on-site substation, a temporary construction compound, and associated infrastructure at Little Hartfell, Corrie Common.
The plans have been in the making since 2020 but the applicant produced a revised application several months ago.
However, while the majority of windfarm proposals are pushed through to help meet government energy targets, there were complications with the Lockerbie site.
Council planning case officer Chris McTeir recommended that councillors reject the windfarm application due to its close proximity to a Ministry of Defence station.
In his report, Mr McTeir wrote: “Whilst in many respects the proposal enjoys a level of policy support, the present proposal is considered to represent a significant departure from the terms of the development plan in respect of the conflict with the MoD’s safeguarding area around the seismological station at Eskdalemuir.”
Councillors supported this position and voted to refuse the windfarm development application.
