Proposals for a £250,000 inclusive playpark in Castle Douglas went on display on Monday.
Members of the town’s development forum invited youngsters and adults along to Lochside Park to look at the two designs being considered.
The park is now the preferred location after Market Hill had originally been the chosen site.
Development forum chairman Carolyn Yates said: “We went over why it had moved, which is that the council had asked us to do another consultation after Covid.
“The producers markets are now held at Market Hill and it is now used more for events.
“CD Civic Fest will be held there and the jubilee celebrations were there, so the playpark would take up space used for events. People also asked why it had to replace an existing playpark and again that’s down to the council’s best value policy about renewing and extending so that we’re not spending all our money on preparing the grounds.
“The children were split pretty evenly on the two plans. We also had someone from DG Voice and from a carers voice and they preferred one with a wheelchair swing.”
The two proposals will be on display in the town over the summer to allow more people to give their views, with the council taking the project to tender in September.
The local authority will stump up half the £250,000 needed to turn the project into reality, with the development forum closing in on securing the other half.
“However, we would like to put in things like more benches and CCTV which are extra so the fundraising will be an ongoing process.”
