Property registrations in Mysuru go up over rebate in guidance value

Property registrations in Mysuru have gone up since the beginning of this year, thanks to the rebate announced by the State government in the guidance value that shot up transactions across the offices of sub-registrars in the district.

The registrations were dull and the key reason cited was the pandemic which had slowed down registrations since the last two years. To give a boost to registrations for bringing revenue to the exchequer, the government announced a 10 percent discount in the guidance value. The offer was available from January 1 to March 31.

However, the public are making queries with the offices here on whether the offer would be extended.

District Registrar Pandit told The Hindu that the offer is closed for now and the government is yet to announce its extension. The people have been making enquiries on the possible extension of the discount, he added.

In the last three months, property registrations went up by 10-15%, bringing a revenue of around ₹18 crore from the district alone in terms of stamp duty collected for the registration of properties, he said.

Mysuru district has 14 sub-registrar offices, including five in Mysuru city alone. The registrations were predominantly high in South, North, East and West offices of Mysuru city. Some taluks have two offices and the registrations in the taluks too were reasonably good, Mr. Pandit said.

“The 10% rebate in the guidance value attracted people as they could save some money,” he replied.

The district registrar said the sub-registrar offices are likely to be upgraded with new software and systems with the government planning to launch Kaveri-2. The technology and system that is being used is expected to be improved, bringing changes in the working and helping faster transactions at the offices. The staff, however, managed to meet the rush with the available systems.
