Property cordoned off in south Manchester following gas leak after firearms officer rush to 'disturbance'

A property in south Manchester has been taped off after a 'disturbance' and suspected gas leak this afternoon.

Firearms officers rushed to the scene on Monsall Road at around 11am this morning (Thursday Feburary 23) to reports of two men at a property who were causing a disturbance. Fire crews were later called at around 5pm to reports of a suspected gas leak.

Crews remain on the scene as they work to make sure 'normal, safe air quality' is restored. There have been no injuries, according to Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Services (GMFRS).

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said: "Police received a call at 11am this morning, Thursday 23 February 2023, to reports of two men at a property on Monsall Road in Manchester, who were causing a disturbance.

"Due to the nature of threats being made, firearms officers from GMP attended the scene. There is currently a scene in place and investigations are ongoing."

In a statement, GMFRS said: "Just before 5pm today, firefighters were asked to attend an address on Monsall Road in Manchester where there was a suspected gas leak.

"Firefighters and Cadent Gas engineers have attended the scene and worked together to isolate the gas supply to the property and ensure that everyone is safe. There are no injuries and firefighters have already begun to leave the area.

There is currently a cordon around the property which will remain in place until normal, safe air quality is restored."
