Property closed down in 'usually lovely' Long Eaton street after anti-social behaviour

Neighbours of a "usually lovely" Long Eaton street have spoken out after a property was closed due to consistent "unacceptable behaviour'". A property at Trafalgar Square off Main Street in Long Eaton was served a closure notice on June 30 by police following repeated reports of drug-related anti-social behaviour.

It comes six months after officers carried out a warrant on a property at Trafalgar Square, when residents said "more than 30 police officers" attended the area. A temporary closure notice was issued at a Trafalgar Square property on Friday, June 30, meaning nobody could enter the property for 24 hours. Long Eaton's neighbourhood policing team explained this would be extended to a three-month period, should a Court Hearing approve the closure order.

Now residents have shared what life is like on the street. Lisa Widdowson, 50, who works as a security guard said: "The anti-social behaviour on the street is the worst, I don't know much about the drugs use, but then again, there is one house which just drug deals in the street all the time.

"There are kids just riding up and down on their bikes all the time. It's noisy - I've been here three and a half years and it's always been like this. The rest of the street is lovely, it's just a few houses."

One resident said: "I ended up sitting on the main road because there were police officers... It's usually a nice street to be fair, but then again I'm usually at work so I don't always see and hear much."

Despite the issues on the street, residents sat they are caused by a minority, and many of those living there have "never had a problem." Donna Jones, 58, who does not work due to a medical condition, said: "I usually sit in the back of the house and I don't hear any noise. I think this street is alright.

"I've lived here for eight years, but I do try and keep myself to myself, I don't have much to do with many people on the street. But I've never had a problem, everyone seems nice and will stop for a chat."

Another resident added: "It's mostly fine, but I'm just trying to keep out of it." Acting Sergeant Taylor, from the Long Eaton Safer Neighbourhood Team said: "No doubt the closure of this house will come as a huge relief to those in the local community who have been subjected to the unacceptable behaviour of those who use the property.

"We would like to thank the community for their support, and we hope this prompt action reassures the area that we are committed to make Long Eaton a safe place to live" Derbyshire Police added any issues can be reported through 101 or 999 in an emergency. Crime can also be reported anonymously to Crimestoppers by calling 0800 555 11 or online at www.crimestopper-uk.org.
