'Proper player' - Manchester United fans go wild as Kobbie Mainoo named on bench vs Wolves

Manchester United fans could not hide their excitement after Erik ten Hag named Kobbie Mainoo on the bench for their Premier League clash with Wolves.

The Dutch manager sprung a few surprises with his team to take on Julen Lopetegui's side at Molineux. Marcus Rashford was named on the bench due to "internal disciplinary" reasons, while Alejandro Garnacho was handed a place in the starting XI in the England international's absence.

Although he was not named in the starting XI, Mainoo would have been delighted to have been included in the matchday squad for the game against Wolves. The 17-year-old is highly-regarded by those at the club and the teenager has been tipped by many to have a very promising future.

The youngster was pictured in training with the rest of the United squad on Thursday as suggestions about his inclusion continued to grow. Although he was not involved in the Carabao Cup game against Burnley before Christmas, Mainoo has now done enough to impress Ten Hag and earn himself a spot in the travelling party.

Mainoo scored against Cadiz in the mid-season friendly for those not involved in the World Cup. He has clearly made a strong impression on both the United manager and his coaches and will be desperate for a chance to show them what he can do in the Premier League should he be called upon.

As the news of Mainoo's inclusion filtered through, fans were ecstatic to see the starlet's name among the substitutes, and they took to social media to share their excitement.
