'Proper game' - Scott McTominay shows off battle scars after Manchester United win over Leeds

Scott McTominay showed off his battle scars on social media after branding Manchester United’s win at Leeds a “proper game”.

The midfielder and his teammates were made to work hard as they had to respond to Leeds clawing their way back into the game before United eventually emerged 4-2 winners at Elland Road.

The game was played in torrential conditions in Yorkshire, with the constant downpour having a major impact on the playing surface and giving the game an old-fashioned feel to it.

And the players certainly didn’t hold back in their challenges, with the hostile atmosphere helping the retro feel to the game.

McTominay played his part in the fiery contest and was perhaps a little lucky to stay on the pitch when he avoided picking up a second booking late on as tempers began to flare between the two old rivals.

That being said, the Scot was clearly on the end of some rough treatment himself, as he showed to fans on Instagram after the game.

McTominay took to social media to share some pictures from Elland Road, including the caption: “Leeds Away – Proper game.”

Among the pictures was a shot of the midfielder’s ankle covered in cuts and bruises as he proudly displayed the rewards for his efforts.

Teammate Anthony Elanga, who scored United’s fourth of the afternoon, was among those to reply to the post, calling McTominay “my favourite soldier”.

McTominay will be expecting plenty more bruises this week as United head to Spain for the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie.

They take on La Liga champions Atletico Madrid before returning to Premier League action on Saturday against Watford.
