Prominent multi-purpose Nottingham city centre building now on the market

A prominent multi-purpose Nottingham city centre building has gone on the market, and local residents have weighed in on what they think its future could be. Huntingdon House is used as a multi-purpose venue and home to a number of units, including office spaces, but is now looking for a new owner.

The property, located in 278 to 290 Huntingdon Street, in the outskirts of the city centre, is just a few minutes walk away from popular Nottingham locations including The Lace Market, Hockley and Victoria Centre. The building has been listed by Savills on Rightmove as being a "mixed-use property for sale".

The site states: "Huntingdon House comprises an attractive mixed-use office, retail and workshop building arranged over three storeys, being of a traditional 1930s brick construction under flat and pitched roofs.

"The property generally operates as a successful business centre, providing well-specified flexible office space. The Victoria Centre and retail core are just a few minutes walk away, as are The Lace Market and Hockley Quarter, offering an eclectic mix of independent retailers, restaurants and bars."

The building also spans parts of Rick Street and Kent Street. A large workshop, currently used to provide 15 parking spaces, is accessible from the former.

The current total passing rent on the property is £241,786.32 ,gross, per year. The area has become a popular spot for student accommodation developers in recent years, with Mansion Student Halls, Prestige Student Living Straits Village, and Curzon House, by Unite Students, all being in the immediate vicinity of Huntingdon House.

Some locals have weighed in on what they think the future of the 25,050-square-foot property could be. Two said: "Firstly, I think it would be really useful for it to be a sort of budget convenience store, that would really help students with food shopping. It could also be a used clothing store too.

"Other things I think would be good would be a nice coffee shop, there's nowhere really around here for coffee. If we want to go to Costa we have to walk all the way to the city centre.

"It could end up being another student accommodation but there are loads around here. It's become a bit of a student-ville around here.

"There's also nothing really for students who maybe want an alternative to drinking. It could also even be business offices, that could help increase job opportunities in the area."

Huntingdon House is currently price on application only. The units at the front of the building currently have their shutters down, and it is unclear if they are currently in use.
