During tonight's Republican National Convention, several speakers who have recently switched party affiliations from the Democratic Party to the Republican Party will take the stage.

One of the notable figures is New Jersey Rep. Jeff Van Drew, who made headlines in 2022 when he transitioned from being a freshman Democrat to a member of the Republican Party. Van Drew cited being pressured to vote in favor of President Donald Trump's impeachment as the deciding factor that led him to leave the Democratic Party.

Another prominent individual is Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson, a former Democratic state lawmaker, who announced his decision to vote Republican and join the GOP last year.

West Virginia Gov. Jim Justice, who is currently running for Senate to fill Joe Manchin's seat, has a history of changing party affiliations. Justice has been an independent and a Republican until 2015 when he ran for governor as a Democrat. However, in 2017, a year into Trump's presidency, he publicly declared his intention to switch his registration to the Republican Party during a rally with Trump.

At the convention, Justice is expected to make an appearance alongside his bulldog, Babydog, who gained notoriety after appearing at his 2022 State of the State address.
