Prolific Kensington Rolex robber jailed for £65,000 haul of luxury watches

A prolific Rolex watch robber who targeted four victims in Kensington and Westminster has been jailed.

Mohamed Amoyos, 33, would approach lone men pretending to discuss South American football before grabbing designer timepieces worth £65,000 off their wrists.

Mohamed Amoyos caught on CCTV (Metropolitan Police)

Amoyos was caught following detailed reports by the victims as well as good quality CCTV of the robberies taking place, the Metropolitan Police said.

Detective Superintendent Andy Swindells, who led the investigation, said: “Amoyos’s arrest follows a thorough investigation by officers that demonstrates their unwavering determination to make the capital safer for Londoners and tourists.

“We’ve seen time and time again the devastating effect that robbery can have on victims no matter what gets stolen.

“We encourage people to report as soon as they can whenever they have been a victim of a robbery or theft, so officers can attend the scene and investigate swiftly.”

Amoyos’s haul included a £7,000 Rolex watch stolen from a man in Kensington on October 4, 2023, before he snatched a £40,000 Audemars Piguet from a male victim in Westminster on November 18.

Six days later, the mugger targeted a man in Kensington for his Rolex Submariner worth £15,000.

On December 1, he robbed a fourth victim of his £2,500 limited-edition Muhammad Ali Tag Heurer in Westminster,

At Southwark Crown Court on Thursday, Amoyos, of Trimmer Walk, Hounslow, was sentenced to four years and six months having pleaded guilty to robbery at an earlier hearing.
