Israeli authorities reported that a projectile fired from Yemen landed in Tel Aviv's southern Jaffa area overnight into Saturday. This incident marked a rare occurrence of a failed interception over the city, as attempts to intercept the missile from Yemen were unsuccessful after sirens sounded in central Israel.
The Israeli military confirmed the presence of a fallen projectile in the area and stated that at least 14 individuals sustained mild injuries during the attack, according to Israel's Magen David Adom (MDA) emergency service.
Tel Aviv, Israel's second-largest city and a significant commercial and diplomatic hub, is known for its robust air defense systems, making direct hits from projectiles uncommon.
Just recently, on Thursday, the Israeli military successfully intercepted a missile launched from Yemen, resulting in shrapnel causing significant damage to a school near Tel Aviv. In a previous incident in November, shrapnel from an intercepted Hezbollah rocket struck a building in the city.
In a separate event in July, the Iran-backed Houthi rebel group based in Yemen claimed responsibility for a deadly drone attack in Tel Aviv, marking the first such strike on the city by the group.
