‘Problem’ - Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp makes Man City title race evaluation

Liverpool FC boss Jurgen Klopp says Manchester City not yet running away with the Premier League makes the title race more compelling.

The Blues are favourites to land a third successive title this season, and could end the weekend in pole position should Arsenal fail to beat Nottingham Forest following the 1-0 win over Leicester on Saturday.

Many expect the champions to create a big lead between themselves and their title challengers down the line, but their inability to win three games has left the early-season door open. They dropped points against Newcastle and Aston Villa before suffering their first defeat of the campaign to Liverpool a fortnight ago.

City hit back with a win over Brighton but were held to a goalless draw by Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League this week, meaning they had won just one of their past four games following their stalemate with FC Copenhagen prior to the Liverpool defeat.

Klopp ’s suffered another shock defeat, this time to Leeds, on Saturday having bounced back from the 1-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest last week with a 3-0 Champions League win over Ajax. They are already some 13 points behind City in the table after also losing to Arsenal and Manchester United this season.

Klopp admitted that his side were currently not in the title picture but highlighted that City’s recent struggles is making for an interesting battle at the top. “City is not running away [which] obviously makes it more competitive,” he said in Friday’s press conference.

“There’s not just one team or two teams up front, there are three, four, five teams up front. My problem with that is that we are not one of them. Apart from that I don’t look at other clubs, apart from when we play them.”
