Probe after prisoner dies in Scottish jail on Christmas Eve

A PROBE is to be launched into the death of a prisoner in a Scottish jail on Christmas Eve.

Robert Campbell passed away while a prisoner at HMP Low Moss in East Dunbartonshire, the Scottish Prison Service (SPS) said.

The SPS confirmed the 49-year-old died on December 24, and said: “He was sentenced at Falkirk Sheriff Court in 2021.

“Police Scotland have been advised and the matter reported to the Procurator Fiscal.”

A Fatal Accident Inquiry will be held in due course to establish the circumstances of the death.

Just 12 days before Campbell died, there was a death of another prisoner at HMP Glenochil.

The SPS said Robert Carr, 45, died on December 12 and was sentenced at Edinburgh High Court in 2017.
