A pro-Russian hacker group launched cyber attacks on Italian government websites in response to a speech by Italian President Sergio Mattarella, where he likened Russia's actions in Ukraine to the Nazi regime's 'wars of conquest.' The NoName57 hacker group, which claimed responsibility for the attacks on social media, targeted the websites of key ministries such as defense, interior, and transport, as well as law enforcement agencies. The attacks caused intermittent access issues to these sites.
Prior to targeting government websites, the hacker group had also threatened and attacked Italian banks, ports, airports, and local transport agencies. Fortunately, these attacks did not result in significant disruptions. President Mattarella, while visiting Montenegro, expressed his hope for Russia to resume a constructive role in the international community, emphasizing the importance of upholding international law and respecting the sovereignty of all nations.

In a speech delivered in Marseille, France, on February 5th, President Mattarella drew parallels between the current situation and the events leading up to World War II, highlighting the dangers of 'wars of conquest.' He specifically referenced Russia's actions as being reminiscent of the Third Reich's ambitions in Europe, characterizing Russia's aggression towards Europe in a similar light.
Russia's foreign ministry spokesperson, Maria Zakharova, expressed disappointment over President Mattarella's remarks, reflecting the escalating tensions between Italy and Russia following the comparison made by the Italian President.
