Pro-Palestinian protests continued on Sunday at George Washington University’s campus in Washington, DC, where students have set up an encampment of numerous tents in a park and on a nearby street.
A group of demonstrators has been chanting “Free Palestine” to the rhythm of a drum on H Street NW, with some wearing traditional keffiyeh and waving Palestinian flags. The street remains closed off by law enforcement, and several DC Metropolitan Police officers are present in the area.
Flags, signs, and sidewalk chalk adorn the encampment, where protestors have stated their intention to remain until the university meets their demands. These demands include disclosing its financial endowments and divesting from Israeli associations, aligning with the message of various college protests across the country.
One counter-protester made her way through the crowd with an Israeli flag draped over her shoulders. Demonstrators responded by chanting, “Free, free, free Palestine,” while one protestor held a sign that read, “Genocide is bad.”
