Pro-Palestinian Protesters Accuse UCLA Of Inaction During Campus Attack

Demonstrators protest in solidarity with Pro-Palestinian organizers on the Columbia University campus, in New York

Pro-Palestinian protesters at the University of California, Los Angeles, have raised concerns over the university's response to an attack on their encampment on Tuesday night. The incident involved a violent clash between pro-Palestinian demonstrators and Israel supporters, resulting in injuries and property damage.

According to a spokesperson for the pro-Palestinian encampment, the attack involved the use of weapons such as pepper spray, mace, boards, bricks, and fireworks. The spokesperson, who is also a PhD student at UCLA, criticized the university for allegedly failing to intervene and prevent the violence.

Despite warnings from the pro-Palestinian group about the likelihood of an attack, they claim that both police and private security guards hired by the university stood by and watched as the confrontation unfolded.

In response to the incident, UCLA stated that medical teams and law enforcement were promptly called to the scene to address the situation. The university's vice chancellor for strategic communications expressed dismay over the violence, emphasizing the need for it to cease immediately.

The spokesperson for the pro-Palestinian group mentioned uncertainty regarding the well-being of the injured students involved in the clashes, highlighting the seriousness of the situation.

The incident underscores the ongoing tensions surrounding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and raises questions about the role of universities in ensuring the safety and security of all students on campus.
